I have to admit, part of me doesn’t want to write this post because I see my favourite concealer kinda like my dirty little secret.
You see the thing is, while my other mates are rushing off to Benefit and Clinique for their concealers, I get mine from *cough* Tesco. Shhh!
Even more uncool, I first discovered the amazing little Barbara Daly Concealer (£4.25) through reading a fashion and beauty advice book by Trinny and Susannah. It was my mum’s ok?
Anyway, I have the last laugh because this concealer is actually BRILLIANT. I can’t bear those liquid concealers in a tube which every high street beauty brand seems to sell – they’re difficult to apply to specific areas and the consistency is too runny to provide sufficient coverage for most blemishes (seriously aren’t spots many to go in your twenties?!)
The Barbara Daly concealer has a lovely creamy feel that provides excellent coverage for less-than-flawless skin without feeling heavy. It blends well and has really good staying power – particularly compared to the Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer which I’ve read is the biggest selling in the UK but in my opinion is pretty poor.
In fact, having compared my good old Barbara with Mac Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer (three times the price at £14.50), the only real difference in the latter is the sun protection (although the Tesco concealer only comes in three shades, Fair, Medium and Warm, whereas Mac have about 20, so if you’re really pale/dark-skinned it might not do).
However, for anyone like me who always has a spot/scar/red nose to cover – and isn’t embarrassed to be seen in the cosmetics aisle at their local supermarket – go out and buy some Barbara! I really can’t recommend it enough:)
